Elegance and serenity of nature at our exclusive venue where you can marvel at the majestic Swans. Castle Park is a most interesting winter spot in McHenry County to watch Trumpeter swans return to their winter home. To my knowledge in 1984 there were no Trumpeter Swans in McHenry County, Illinois. In 1985 I introduced 4 pair of swans in my property; ever since swans have been breeding in our wetlands, lake and local wildlife refuges and parks. There are now more than 100 Trumpeter Swans in the county and numbers are increasing every year. In November most of the swans return to Castle Park with their cygnets since we provide open water and feed them throughout the winter. Early spring most of the Swans take off to local areas for breeding. Over 15,000 lb of cracked corn is fed to the swans and various waterfowl every winter. Trumpeter Swan is not only the largest waterfowl but also one of the heaviest flying birds in the world. Wingspan 7+ feet, height 4’ and 21-30 lb. Trumpeter Swans are not territorial in winter and not aggressive as other swan species.
